Steel structure buildings feature simple construction procedures, excellent structural stability and seismic performance, which have won wide recognition among the public. In an era that advocates eco-friendly green construction, steel structure housing has become an inevitable trend for both rural and urban areas. Such buildings are assembled from various steel components. So what key issues should be addressed during construction to guarantee the quality and structural stability of steel houses?
Clarify the layout of the original building structure, and select rational connection positions and connection types between the newly-built steel structure and the original structure, so as to prevent loads from the steel structure from damaging the original building.
Arrange primary and secondary steel beams in coordination with the architectural, interior decoration and electromechanical installation designs of the attic, to avoid or minimize secondary damage to the steel structure during decoration and installation works.
Square steel tubes, hollow section steel and other hollow steel products are not recommended. Their inner surfaces cannot be easily coated with anti-rust paint. In northern regions, temperature fluctuations lead to condensed water inside the hollow steel, causing rust stains that contaminate suspended ceilings and wall surfaces. In severe cases, this will pose safety hazards.
Define the load-bearing layout of the steel structure and design a clear, concise force transmission path. Steel structures are prone to obvious vibration under load, so precise structural calculation and analysis are required to strictly control structural deformation and vibration frequency. This maintains a neat visual appearance of the structure, eliminates resonance triggered by human activities, prevents shear fatigue failure caused by resonance, and ensures comfortable living experience.
Selection of steel materials (channel steel, I-beam): Common specifications include 10#, 12#, 14# and 16#. Regardless of the selected specification, national standard steel is strongly recommended, as it boasts superior material quality and dimensional accuracy compared with non-standard steel. Non-standard steel features high hardness, brittleness and poor ductility, making it difficult to cut and drill.
Before fixing channel steel, apply anti-rust paint to the side attached to the wall. All other surfaces shall be painted after welding is completed; premature painting will compromise welding quality.
During steel structure erection, I-beams and channel steel must adopt matching specifications. Full penetration welding is mandatory. Main load-bearing keels shall be made of integral steel sections; mid-span splicing of main keels by welding is strictly prohibited.
