Welding procedure qualification is a process that simulates actual production conditions to conduct welding and tests on materials, in order to verify whether the proposed welding parameters (such as current, voltage, welding speed, heat treatment, etc.) can ensure the mechanical properties and structural integrity of the weld. Its core objective is: 1. To confirm whether the welding unit has the capability to manufacture welding joints that meet standards; 2. To verify the correctness of the welding procedure specification (WPS); 3. To provide a basis for the formulation of a formal welding procedure instruction manual.

Welding process assessment serves as the fundamental basis for conducting welding work on-site in engineering projects. It is of great significance for an engineering construction unit. The welding process assessment of the unit is applicable to all projects of the unit (unless the owner has special requirements). Welding process assessment is the fundamental basis for implementing welding work, so to do a good job in welding work, the welding process assessment is the first thing that needs to be understood. Therefore, the public account "Engineering Matters" will, over the next period of time, through a series of articles, focus on interpreting the relatively authoritative norms and standards related to welding process assessment. NB/T 47014-2023 "Welding Process Assessment for Pressure Equipment" is one of the more authoritative bases for conducting welding process assessment for pressure vessel and pressure pipeline engineering welding, and is widely applied in energy fields such as coal, petroleum, natural gas, power, new energy and renewable energy. Note: NB/T is a recommended standard in the energy industry of China, issued and managed by *** Energy Bureau.

This standard specifies the rules, test methods and qualification criteria for the welding process qualification of pressure-bearing equipment (boilers, pressure vessels, pressure pipelines). It is applicable to welding processes such as gas welding, stick electrode arc welding, submerged arc welding, tungsten inert gas welding, flux-cored wire arc welding, electroslag welding, plasma arc welding, friction welding, gas-electric vertical welding, stud arc welding and electron beam welding. However, it is not applicable to the welding process qualification of gas cylinders. Original content is hard to come by. Remember to "follow + like + share"! Oh!

Concept clarification: 1. pWPS - Pre-welding Procedure Specification (preliminary welding procedure specification) This is purely a document. It is a welding process document prepared in advance for the purpose of conducting welding process assessment.

2. Welding Procedure Qualification (WPQ) This is a process for implementing the welding procedure. It involves conducting tests and evaluating the results to verify the correctness of the welding procedure for the fabricated parts. Further, WPQ refers to the process of conducting verification tests and evaluating the results to confirm whether the mechanical properties, bending properties, chemical composition, corrosion resistance, and bending properties of the welded joints or corrosion-resistant overlay layers as specified in the PWP, meet the requirements. 3. PQR - Welding Procedure Qualification Report (Procedure Qualification Record) This is an evaluation report. It records the verification tests and their results, and is a report for evaluating the proposed PWP. 4. WPS - Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) The WPS corresponds to the pre-welding procedure specification and is a general welding document. It is compiled based on the qualified PQR report and is used to guide the welding process for product fabrication. 5. WWI - Welding Working Instruction (Welding Working Instruction) This is a document used to guide specific on-site welding. It is generally accessible to on-site operators and is one of the welding technical handover materials. It is a detailed document of processing and operation rules related to the fabrication of welded parts. The welding work instruction used by welders can ensure the reproducibility of the construction quality.
